Javier moved to the United States in 1980 from Chihuahua, Mexico as a teenager. He knew that someday he would like to own his own home. He was inspired by fond memories of spending time with his siblings and parents in their home, and he wanted to recreate this experience for his family here in the States.
For a while, he began to doubt that he could achieve his dream of homeownership. Despite working hard, he could not seem to get ahead. He understood the long-term financial benefits owning how own house would have on his family. He wanted to be able to one day pass his home on to them, which, Javier said, “was the best thing there is.”
Fortunately, Javier learned about Homewise. He was set up with a homebuyer coach who thoroughly assessed his credit, debt, income, and savings. He learned that credit was something he needed towork on and a game plan was put forth. “They coached me on how to improve my credit and gave me lots of tips,” he shared regarding his barrier to homeownership. “I worked on it and achieved that goal, and now I am a homeowner.” In less than two years, Javier went from having bad credit to owning a home. “My team explained the whole process to me in Spanish and in detail; they made me understand everything.”
Javier, a family man, loves spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and dog, Oso, in their home. His family now gathers at his home for celebrations and get-togethers, creating new memories for him and the future generations of his family.
